FAQ
A maintenance check should be performed on a standby generator once every 400 hours or six months, whichever occurs first. If you use your standby generator quite frequently, you ought to have it serviced once every three months. Even if the generator is not used very often, it will still need to be serviced every two to three years at the very least.
Various oil filters, such as a by-pass filter, centrifuge filter, lube oil filter, fuel feed pump filter, and so on, are installed in the backup generator. As part of the backup generator's maintenance, these filters either need to be cleaned, or the filter cartridge needs to be replaced, depending on what the manufacturer says or how the oil is right now.
On average, a standby generator can provide power to a medium-sized home for up to 3,000 hours, but it is not recommended that you run a generator for more than 500 hours straight.
The National Electrical Code (NEC) recommends that your property's electrical codes and standards for outlets and wiring be updated every three years.
Upgrades to the electrical system include the following examples:
- Upgraded electrical panel outlets
- The dimmer switches
- The use of surge protectors
- Upgrade of the electrical wiring
JG Beacham Electric will send a team of trained electricians to your home to fully inspect the electricity. This assessment aims to find out if the wiring and electrical systems in your home are safe and meet your needs. Our electricians will do things like check the circuit breaker panel for problems and loose connections, test the outdoor outlets, figure out what kind of wiring is in the house, and make sure the whole house is properly grounded.
If it turns out that your home needs new wiring or more amperage in its electrical panel, JG Beacham Electric will work with you every step of the way to make sure your needs are met.
A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) is used in and around the home, as well as in any other place where there is water (bathroom, spa room, swimming pool, etc.). It could be a breaker that supplies an outlet circuit or a separate device in your home. They look like regular household outlets but have a reset and test button. The device can be wired differently than standard outlets, which protects it and any outlets that are wired after it.
A disconnect switch is at least 5 feet away and usually takes the form of a timer that allows you to turn the hot tub or pool on and off. In recreational centers or resorts, these are typically in the form of a digital or analog timer on an adjacent wall.
A digital switch is used as a safety measure because someone could get electrocuted if they touch a part of the circuit while they are underwater and using the switch.
Hiring a professional or a certified electrician is important because he can safely build your pool or hot tub with the necessary electrical safety precautions. However, it should be noted that some municipalities require permits to install any type of pool or hot tub. As a result, your local electrical inspector may require you to hire a licensed electrician.
It is critical to determine whether your property can support the additional weight of a pool or hot tub, especially for older homes or commercial buildings that may require an upgrade to their electrical service. It must be addressed to avoid disappointment and prevent your new pool or hot tub from overburdening your service. JG Beacham Electrical can do all that for you. We can also handle any electrical connections and add-ons like solar panels for powering water heaters or lights.
The majority of your home's standard 120-volt household circuits are parallel circuits (or should be). Outlets, switches, and light fixtures are all wired in such a way that the hot and neutral wires form a continuous circuit pathway that is independent of the individual devices on the circuit.
Residential wiring refers to any electrical work or wiring intended for residential buildings or houses. This wiring is only found in homes. On the other hand, commercial wiring is highly complicated and designed for commercial buildings such as warehouses, hospitals, and shopping malls.
An electrical inspector is a person who is hired by the government or a city or town to check electrical connections to make sure they follow local laws and rules.
You will be able to do the following after upgrading your panel:
- Increase your home's number of outlets and circuits.
- To avoid some electrical repairs, make sure the panel is in good working order.
- Circuit breakers should not be overloaded.
- Reduce the number of overloaded electrical outlets.
JG Beacham Electric's estimates are based on the number of lights installed. As a result, before any work begins, we provide a detailed cost and design plan. It simplifies cost estimation and control for both you and the designer. This way, there will be no surprises. The price depends on the type of fixture and the number of fixtures to be installed.
Electrical panels contribute to the safety of your home. To avoid fires and other risks to your home or property, it's critical to address any issues with the units as soon as possible. Some of the most common problems you may encounter are:
- Overcrowding
The electrical panel may not have enough amps in older homes or buildings. Also, multiple cables connected to the same breaker can cause a double-tapped breaker panel to get clogged up.
- Inadequate capacity
You may require a larger panel if you notice power surges and flickering lights in your home.
- Corrosion
Corrosion is probably the most common issue, and it can range from minor to severe. Any source of moisture, such as humidity or a steady drip of water entering from the main service wire, can cause significant damage to electric panels.
You will do yourself a huge favor and avoid corrosion entirely if you can eliminate all sources of moisture in your home. Electrical connections are compromised when corrosion becomes severe enough. Wires and other components will almost certainly need to be repaired or replaced.
